English’s of Brighton

I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of older things. I love old books, antique furniture and even talk to my grandparents on Skype when they come over for a visit!
So I should not find it surprising that English’s the oldest seafood restaurant in Brighton has captured my heart with their delicious food and rustic atmosphere as well.
Located just off East Street near The Lanes is where you’ll find this family-owned and operated establishment situated on Market St., an area of town which would without question boast one of the best restaurants around!

The Leigh-Jones family have run English’s since 1945 and when you step inside, the low ceilings and sloping floors give that away.
It’s all part of this little place’s charm – it feels quintessentially British with its hand-painted signage on the exterior.

This is the kind of place that stands out on a street full of restaurants.

It’s one-of-a-kind and has such an authentic feel to it, you can’t help but want to stop in for just a moment before moving on with your day!

English’s of Brighton Food

Seafood is the best meal to be served on a day where it feels like summer. Not only has English’s been cooking seafood for over 150 years, but they’re also getting more creative with their menu items!

English’s is the place to go if you love seafood and want something with a little more flavour.
Their staff can recommend the right dish for your tastes, or help make suggestions on what wine will match up well!
With fresh and high-quality ingredients that are sure to impress even the pickiest eater in your group of friends – stop by ASAP!

If you’re feeling adventurous, make your way for their Tuesday Mussel Mayhem! Choose from five different varieties of mussels with fries and some bread on the side.
Then enjoy a glass of wine or other beverage before indulging in a decadent dessert off their menu!

If Fridays are more your style, don’t miss out on 7 lobster dishes served alongside garlic chips and fizzy drinks.

On weekends I like to spend time with my friends at English’s, where we usually order oysters and eggs- Benedict. Yum!

My favourite dish is their à la carte menu starter platter which has a range of different types of food on it that you can share between your table depending on what everyone wants.
It’s always so much fun when the server brings out the tray full of beautiful dishes for us all to enjoy as well.

The starter platter includes salmon slices, prawn cocktail, chicken liver parfait, calamari and lobster and shrimp croquettes.
I think this is great value for money considering the variety of items on there – a light but delicious way to get your appetite going!

There are so many different ways to enjoy this place; whether you want a glass of wine and some oysters on the terrace, or if you fancy tucking into an amazing seafood meal at their marble-topped oyster bar!

I’ve had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes at English’s, and I would highly recommend that you visit if you’re in search of classic cuisine.
The summertime is an ideal time for sitting outside where there are only a few tables available so plan and make sure to book one when it’s sunny out!
